The new classic
These compact 8-note tongue drums first appeared over a decade ago and are still going strong. They were originally handcrafted from gas cylinders. Today, we use pre-shaped steel shells, cut perfect tongues with lasers, and finish the drums with a durable powder coating.
Sound and tuning
The Mini has a bright, bell-like tone — a familiar, classic voice. When played with the included soft mallets, it reveals a warmer, deeper sound compared to hand playing.
The Insomnia scale in B-minor feels philosophical, immersive, and a little mystical. Thanks to the smaller number of notes, the Mini is incredibly easy to pick up in any tuning.
Design
The Mini features a tough powder-coated finish and a clean, minimalist look. It comes standard in three matte colors: turquoise, black, and gold. But thanks to our painting process, we can quickly produce custom instruments in other colors including glossy finishes.
