HOW TO CHOOSE A STEEL TONGUE DRUM?

Over the past 10 years, we have made a number of instruments for different purposes with a variety of sound and moods. Below you’ll find the instructions facilitating your choice.

Below you will find recommendations on how to choose a steel tongue drum for a specific need. Click on the option(s) you like.

Relax or meditate
 
All steel tongue drums are relaxing, but the larger their size is, the deeper the immersion becomes. We recommend choosing the instruments of 30, 35, and 38 cm in diameter.

Double-sided drums allow you to play in two different moods. They are two instruments in one. Playing on a stand allows creating a special atmosphere as both drum sides sound at a time.

Dvutones and Tritones have the deepest and most surrounding sound since the main tone and its overtones are tuned on each tongue.

The New Wave instruments sound soft, clean, and with no metallic hum that conventional models have. Their tone relaxes perfectly. You can choose very low immersion tuning modes or higher and more intense ones. 

If you play for large groups of people, we recommend using the electroacoustic versions of New Wave: you can connect the instrument to a mixer, speaker, or sound card, and play to a large audience or record relaxing tunes.
 
Travel
 
We have created a special Travel section containing instruments with a diameter of 22 cm and 10-note New Waves. 

These tongue drums are lightweight and compact, making them easy to carry. Take your personal space with you wherever you go.
 
Play with children and learn
 
To develop children’s hand motor skills, ear to music, and sense of rhythm, use Baby tongue drums with a diameter of 22 cm. They are light – just 1.5 kg – and easy to master, which makes them a perfect choice for the youngest.

For older children and teens, we recommend New Wave 15 and its electroacoustic version, an instrument with great learning potential. With this tongue drum and its capacity, the kids will never get bored.
Play like a pro
 
For composing, playing popular tunes, and learning music, choose New Wave 15. Its electroacoustic version also lets you enhance your sound with external effects, amplify, and record it in high quality..

You can also add a 10-note New Wave G# to get a chromatic scale of two octaves.

A Woody drum represents a completely different generation of tongue drums. The combination of wood and steel gave it a unique warm and soft sound without any metallic hum. By opening and closing the resonation hole, you can get a peculiar wah-wah effect.
